The main river in Santa Cruz, Bolivia is Rio Pirai (Pirai River). Rio Pirai is located on the outer west side of the city of Santa Cruz.
The river runs north and south on the sandy landscape of Santa Cruz and carries alot of sand and sediment. It is a wide river that is very shallow in depth and sometimes has a fast moving current after a heavy rainfall or during the wet season.
If you want to visit the river, go to the strip of restaurant know as Cabanas del Rio Pirai, which is located next to the banks of Pirai River. It is a popular weekend spot for locals to eat.
Also, the riverbanks are good for a picnic or to cool off in the water. The weekends here get very crowded and you can find many small huts selling local meals and drinks.
Also, located out that way is the famous Casa del Camba restaurant. Here you can sit outside and experience some local food and take in the great views of Rio Pirai.
Rio Pirai is located about 15 minutes from the center of the city at the end of Avenida Roca and Coronado, just past the 4th ring. You can get there by taxi.
Or take Micro 6 or 9 from Avenida Canoto, near the bus terminal, and get off at the western end of Avenida Roca y Coronado.
